MIRIK DARJEELING
Mirik is nearly midway between Darjeeling and Siliguri and is increasingly becoming popular amongst tourists. Mirik is known for the Samendu Lake situated at an altitude of 1750 meters / 5800 feet. The climate of Mirik is pleasant for most part of the year. It is 50 kilometers from Darjeeling. The main attraction of Mirik is Sumendu Lake with the boating facilities. The Lake is nearly 1.25 kilometers long lake with a depth of nearly eight metres.A 25 meters arch bridge over the lake forms a beautiful sight. Boating and mule rides are good recreation here.There is a Hindu temple called the Singha Devi Mandir is situated on the western bank of the lake. Rameetya Dara and Deosi Dara are two view points near the lake. It gives a nice view of the snow capped Himalayan range and the valley around the region.Both sunrise and sunset are breathtaking from here. Other attractions of the regions are the beautiful tea gardens, Orange orchard and the Cardamom plantations. Pashupati market (In Nepal) is close to Mirik on the way to Darjeeling. Mirik and Pashupati market excursion is a single day outing from Darjeeling.
The small destination is in the hills of Darjeeling distriuct in the state of West Bengal. There are few lovely Tea Resorrt, Home Stay, Hotels and is an altitude of 1767 metres with its own special charms. It is approximately 30 kilometers from Darjeeling and nearly 56 kilometers from Siliguri Town. Sumedhu / Sumendhu lake is nearly 1.25 kilometers long fed by perennial streams keeps the place cool. A floating fountain in the middle of the lakeand the view of mount Kanchenjungha reflected in the lake waters is just amazimg. A rich forest with thousands of Cryptomaria-Japanica trees clothe the slopes on the west. One can visit Sumendhu lake by walk takes you along the lake over a sleek foot bridge connects the garden on the east with the woods on the west. One can enjoy enjoy boat-ride in the lake. Sandakphu trek starts from Mirik or Maneybhanjan and generally ends at Mirik. Bunkulung, Chamong, Sourini Tea, Sukhiapokhori, Ramam, Palmazua, Dhotrey, etc are nearby places which offers home stay or Tea Bunglows.
For Sandakphu trek one can start ffrom Mirik or Manaybhanjan and similarly one can terminate the trek here at Mirik. One day trek, Angling, birding can be organised at Mirik.
